Timeline term: take
A take is one attempt at a unit. In film, several takes of a shot are recorded and the best is used; in AI editors a take is one generation of the same unit. From 8 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
Editors that talk in takes usually offer a choice between them: generate several, keep one. One editor builds its whole episode from kept takes.
Whether unused takes stay available afterwards is a separate question, recorded under versions.
1How editors use it
| Editor | What the pages say | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Character App | Takes that are kept become Clips, and the Clips assemble into the Episode in order | Unit |
| Genra | The agent adds transitions while building the video; the user can take over | Transitions |
| HeyGen | Several takes of a shot are generated, swapped and the best one kept | Versions |
| Higgsfield | Scenes, versions and deliverables are kept in subfolders; past takes can be reused as references | Versions |
| M Studio | Every generation that reaches the model is charged, re-takes and discarded shots included | Redo charge |
| Novi AI | Manual Mode regenerates any clip; the agent path takes revision requests on specific scenes | One-unit redo |
| SceneMixer | An episode holds segments, and a segment holds every take generated of it | Unit |
| Vivideo | The same shot is run through several models and the best take kept | Versions |
Inclusion rule. Editors whose logged statements use the term or its usual equivalent; one line each. Order. Alphabetical by tool name.
