Inside an AI-made episode: units, redos and the cut
A register of 28 AI video tools that build an episode from several generated units. For each it records the unit, whether a redo costs again, whether versions are kept, whether one unit can be redone alone, who picks the transitions, and whether a finished cut can be changed. As of 2026-09-25.
1The timeline
One track per editor, in alphabetical order. The six clips on each track are the six behaviours, in the order every editor page uses; a gap means the vendor's pages say nothing on that one. Open a track for the quotes.

2How many editors document each behaviour
| Behaviour | Documented | Not said |
|---|---|---|
| Unit | 28 | 0 |
| Redo charge | 14 | 14 |
| Versions | 15 | 13 |
| One-unit redo | 24 | 4 |
| Transitions | 19 | 9 |
| Replace in cut | 21 | 7 |
Inclusion rule. The 28 editors on the register; a behaviour counts when the vendor's pages say anything about it. Order. The order the behaviours appear on every editor page.
3Why inside the episode
Most of the cost and most of the frustration in an AI-made episode comes after the first pass: one shot is wrong, a line lands badly, a join jumps. What a tool lets you do then, redo one unit, keep the old one, choose the cut, change a finished episode without starting again, decides how an episode actually gets made.
Vendors describe these behaviours in help centres, FAQ answers and plan notes, each in its own words. The register sets them side by side and quotes them.
4What stands out
Almost every editor lets one unit be redone on its own. Far fewer say what that redo costs: half say nothing, and of those that do, most charge it like the first generation. Transitions are split between tools that apply them, tools that let the user pick, and tools that build joins from first and last frames.
5Where to cut in
Open an editor if you already use one, a behaviour if the question is about redos, versions or transitions, or the edit queries when you have a scene to fix and want to know which tools let you fix it alone.
- Editors — How 28 AI episode tools build, redo and replace the units of an episode: unit, redo charge, versions, single-shot redo, transitions and recut.
- Data — Every statement AI Episode Maker logged about units, redos, versions, transitions and recuts, in one CSV file with sources and dates.
- Redo rankings — Five rankings of AI video editors by what their vendors say: fixing one shot, keeping takes, long videos, episodes, and all six readings.
- Episode rooms — Four readings of tools people search for beside this register: a real-time studio, a Google studio for drama, an editing suite and a retake tool.
- Inside an episode — Each in-episode behaviour read across every editor, with per-editor pages where there is more to say.
- Cutting room — Two editors compared on all six behaviours, with the places they differ quoted.
- Edit queries — Practical questions about redoing, keeping and replacing parts of an episode, answered from vendor pages.
- Timeline terms — The vocabulary of units, takes, versions and joins, defined as the register uses it.
- Assembly notes — Short notes on building, redoing and finishing an AI-made episode, grounded in the register.
