Timeline term: compositing
Compositing, in these editors, means joining the finished units into one video file. It happens once the units are ready, and again when one of them changes. From 8 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
Several editors stitch or assemble automatically; one runs the composite from the active version of every segment and can run it again after a change.
A composite that avoids re-encoding keeps the picture as generated; one that re-encodes may lose a little quality.
Recompositing after a change is cheap compared with regenerating, since no model is called: the joins are made again from units that already exist.
The composite is also where an episode's length is fixed, as the sum of the units it joins.
1How editors use it
| Editor | What the pages say | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Character App | Takes that are kept become Clips, and the Clips assemble into the Episode in order | Unit |
| DomoAI | No in-app episode timeline is described; assembly happens in another editor | Replace in cut |
| Filmora | Visuals are generated for each scene of the script, then assembled into the drama | Unit |
| Higgsfield | A generation of up to one minute arrives as an assembled scene | Unit |
| OiiOii | Narrative videos longer than 60 seconds are stitched from shots; 15-second clips are also supported | Unit |
| Pexo | Every shot is generated and stitched into one video; the guide says there is no fixed duration cap | Unit |
| PopShort AI | On the top plan, an Editing Agent stitches the final cut | Transitions |
| SceneMixer | The composite joins the active version of every segment, without re-encoding where it can; no transition is named | Transitions |
Inclusion rule. Editors whose logged statements use the term or its usual equivalent; one line each. Order. Alphabetical by tool name.
The take you keep becomes a Clip, and the kept Clips assemble into the Episode in order.
