Timeline term: approval gate
An approval gate is a point where the user confirms the plan, the cast or a preview before the tool spends credits on the next step. From 8 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
Several editors put gates before video generation: a scene plan approved before rendering, a storyboard built before any spend, a preview approved before the clip batch.
Gates move redos earlier, where they are cheaper; a fix at the storyboard costs less than a fix in video.
1How editors use it
| Editor | What the pages say | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Character App | Each Clip is priced before it is filmed and charged on approval; a rejected take is described as direction, not waste | Redo charge |
| Crreo AI | Each clip can be modified, replaced or enhanced in Review, on a timeline with visual, speech, music and sound tracks | Replace in cut |
| DirectStudio AI | Specific shots are regenerated on the storyboard before any frame is finalized | One-unit redo |
| DomoAI | Omni Reference generates 4 to 30 seconds per run; an episode is several approved clips | Unit |
| Genra | One card is regenerated without touching the rest, with a preview of the result first | One-unit redo |
| HeyGen | The movie is produced scene by scene, with each shot rendered after the plan is approved | Unit |
| MagicLight | Scenes are adjusted one by one in a storyboard editor; scripts of up to 12,000 characters give about 50 minutes | Unit |
| Novi AI | Specific scenes are refined after the preview, before or after download | Replace in cut |
Inclusion rule. Editors whose logged statements use the term or its usual equivalent; one line each. Order. Alphabetical by tool name.
Every Clip is priced before you press — the Studio shows the exact Credit cost up front, and the charge only happens on your approval.

2Inside a generator's episode
The episode pipeline SceneMixer documents has its own answer to “Approval gate”; two lines from its pages:
It is the reference every later segment points at, which is what keeps a character's face and a location consistent across an episode.

A SceneMixer segment comes out with its sound already in it: each line spoken in that character’s voice, the speaker’s lips moving with the words, and the ambience of the place — rain, traffic, a clock.
