Timeline term: segment
A segment is one generated stretch of an episode, long enough to hold several shots, produced in a single generation. The word is used by fewer editors than shot or scene, and usually for a longer unit. From 2 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
Where a vendor uses segment, the question to ask is what a redo replaces: the whole segment, or one shot inside it. The register records the vendor's answer on the redo pages.
Segment is also used loosely for a selected time range, as in a retake that regenerates a segment inside a shot; the entry keeps the two senses apart.
