Timeline term: shot
A shot is one continuous camera view, from cut to cut. In AI editors it is the smallest unit most tools generate on its own, a few seconds of one framing. From 8 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
Ten editors on the register call their unit a shot. A shot-level redo leaves every other shot as it was, which is why shot-based tools stress single-shot regeneration.
A shot has no fixed length; vendors that give a range put it between about 3 and 20 seconds.
1How editors use it
| Editor | What the pages say | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| DirectStudio AI | An interactive storyboard of shots grouped into scenes; videos are then generated for all scenes | Unit |
| Frameo | Shots generated on a canvas are built into a cut and exported | Unit |
| Genra | The idea becomes a structured scene plan, shown as scene and shot-group cards | Unit |
| HeyGen | The movie is produced scene by scene, with each shot rendered after the plan is approved | Unit |
| ImagineArt | Shots are expanded into scenes, animated one by one and lined up on a timeline | Unit |
| LTX Studio | Shots of 3 to 20 seconds depending on the model, combined in the Timeline into longer videos | Unit |
| M Studio | The script breaks into shots; each shot becomes a video clip of 3 to 15 seconds, laid out on a timeline | Unit |
| OiiOii | Narrative videos longer than 60 seconds are stitched from shots; 15-second clips are also supported | Unit |
Inclusion rule. Editors whose logged statements use the term or its usual equivalent; one line each. Order. Alphabetical by tool name.

By the end you will have made a project, generated a shot, changed it without regenerating it, built a cut and exported a file.

2How one pipeline handles it
The episode pipeline SceneMixer documents has its own answer to “Shot”; two lines from its pages:
Paste a scene or a short script and SceneMixer gives you a storyboard — numbered shots with framing and seconds — and then a moving version of each segment, which you can join into a rough cut of the scene.
